Second Dates Can Be Hard Too
Congratulations – you’ve landed a second date! Now, what do you do? After you have
successfully navigated date #1, here are some tips for surviving date #2.
- Set up the second date within a reasonable amount of time from the first date. A
typical amount of time is one to two weeks later. This provides enough time to evaluate
everything objectively, but a short enough time that you won’t forget each other.
- When setting up your second date, keep all of the safety tips from the first date
still in mind. You still don’t know the person well enough to let your guard down.
- Do something different than you did on your first date. If you ate at a restaurant
during date #1, then change it up and take a walk in a park and feed the ducks on
date #2.
- Meet during the day for the second date. This will provide you with ample time to
get to know each other better as the day progresses.
- Plan an activity that involves talking. At this stage of the relationship, you will
both be wanting to learn as much about each other as you can.
- As you learn more about your date, watch for important tidbits of information. By
listening carefully, you can uncover whether they have been truthful up to now and
whether they are worth a third date.
- Bring things up in the conversation from your last date. Show that you remember
what each other said. This is also a great way to break the ice as well.
- Have somewhere that you need to be after the date. This will prevent an afternoon
date from turning into a late evening date. It will also show your partner that
you have a life without them, too.
- Bring your cell phone and have your friend check up on you, just like you did in
the first date.
- Do something unique for a second date. Instead of just going for a walk, make it
a mission to find the perfect hot dog stand. Or, instead of just going window shopping,
make it a mission to find a photo booth and have your pictures taken together. Make
it fun!
